S. Korea, UAE to Expand AI Cooperation
(MENAFN) South Korea and the United Arab Emirates convened a high-level forum in Seoul on Wednesday, signaling a deepening strategic push to jointly advance artificial intelligence capabilities spanning critical infrastructure, semiconductor technology, and digital services, the South Korean science ministry confirmed.
The bilateral gathering drew government delegates and senior industry figures from both nations, operating under the framework of a joint public-private AI working group — a body established following South Korean President Lee Jae Myung's official visit to the UAE last year, a South Korean news agency reported.
Representatives from both sides reached a consensus on the urgency of forging a robust strategic partnership within the AI sector, citing mounting pressure from an increasingly competitive global technology race.
Central to the agenda were plans for building AI infrastructure underpinned by advanced high-performance semiconductor systems, as well as collaborative efforts to engineer AI-driven services rooted in each nation's native language models — a move that underscores the push for technologically sovereign AI development.
The forum drew a delegation of more than 20 UAE officials, headlined by Mohamed Abdul Rahman AlHawi, undersecretary of the UAE's Ministry of Investment. Emirati AI companies and state-backed investment agencies also sent representatives to the event, according to the ministry.
